MSK
MSK Scans at Discovery Ultrasound Kent & Sussex
MSK sonography stands for Musculoskeletal sonography (or Musculoskeletal Ultrasound). It is an essential, non-invasive tool used for diagnosing soft tissue concerns within the body. MSK scans are fantastic for sporting injuries where you require a precise diagnosis of an area, to then work with a physio for ongoing treatment. We will provide you with a report of our findings.
Areas of the body we often examine are:
- Knees
- Hips
- Ankle and foot
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Wrist/hand
- Groin/Abdominal wall
A private musculoskeletal (MSK) scan is used to visualise muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and soft tissues, by using high-frequency sound waves which creates real-time images of the musculoskeletal structures allowing for precise diagnosis. Private scans offer faster appointments and quicker results compared to NHS scans.
- Tendons – eg, rotator cuff tears, Achilles tendon injuries
- Muscles – muscle tears, hematomas
- Ligaments – sprains or tears
- Joints – joint effusions, arthritis
- Soft tissue masses – cysts, lipomas, tumours
Examples of some of the things we can see are: Morton’s neuroma, ganglion cysts, plantar fasciitis, planta fibromatosis, bursitis synovitis, Baxter’s nerve palsy, hernias.
